About Teen Challenge.

Building upon the established foundation of the Crisis & Referral Center, Ohio Valley Teen Challenge, in 2009 under the direction of Rev. Roy Barnett, has established a long-term (12 month) residential program for men 18 and older. This program provides a faith based approach to the life controlling problems of addiction.

In December 2014, OVTC opened a center for women 18 and older caught in the devasting web of addiction. Under the direction of Rev Mike Leonard Teen Challenge of the Firelands, a beautifully renovated 30 bed facility located in Willard, Ohio, is "A Place of New Beginnings". Program Summary.

Ohio Valley Teen Challenge (OVTC) is a residential, Christian, faith-based discipleship and recovery support program. Dedicated to rebuilding the lives of men (18 and older) who have been devastated by life controlling addictions, OVTC offers a smoke-free environment of support and spiritual formation. The rigorous 12-month program is designed to assist residents in their lifestyle changes and includes pastoral counseling, group lessons, individualized lessons, peer mentoring, social and life skills development, education, community service, work experience program, and health & fitness.

The Program

We Practice Work Ethic

Our work experience program gives the students opportunity to develop a good work ethic. Work experience may include cooking, catering, grounds maintenance, landscaping, painting, general janitorial, and auto detailing.

We have found that work assignments often help surface unhealthy attitudes towards work, authority, God, racism, dishonesty, and disorganization, and often reveals (at least in part) why students may have misused alcohol and/or other substances to cope with their failures. Work experience trains and equips our students to apply first-hand the lessons they are learning in class, and prepares them to live a productive, drug free life upon their completion of the Teen Challenge program. Through the work experience component, students learn specific principles regarding a healthy work ethic.

We Pursue Excellence

Our mission to introduce people in addiction to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through discipleship. By applying Biblical principles, individuals will be

  • Rebuilding Lives
  • Restoring Families
  • Reclaiming Our Community

We will be responsible stewards of God’s resources, emphasizing operational & financial performance with a continuous improvement mindset, resulting in long term financial sustainability. Everything we do shall be with excellence for the Honor & Glory of God

We foster education

Our specially designed curriculum takes a biblical approach to teaching individuals how to deal with life situations, such as attitudes, temptations, growing through failure, anger management, healthy relationships, responsibility, personal rights, respect for others, love, and self acceptance. Teachers work one-on-one with the student in the PSNC (Personal Studies for New Christians) classroom. Each student works at their own pace through a series of workbooks, Bible studies, character qualities, and scripture memorization.

WE create fun

On and/or off campus scheduled recreational activities (which vary depending on the season), are provided during leisure time. Students may enjoy a game of pool or ping pong in the recreation room, play basketball outside, or work out in our exercise/weight room. Our students also enjoy movie time, & free time where they build positive relationships with other students & staff.
